About the “My Way” Music CD by Lalith
Available in Physical CD & Digital Download
Lalith Guy Paranavitana, our president and founder of Empire Tea Services has been singing as an amateur since he was a teenager in high school at Royal College, Colombo, Sri Lanka. He was the lead singer for a boy band called "The Flintstones" with other schoolmates. They only played for fun and for charity events.
Singing was not something he had time for after joining the tea industry as a tea planter in 1971. He was very successful in the industry, eventually becoming a director of one of the largest tea corporations in Sri Lanka. Since immigrating to the USA in 1989, at a time when there was civil unrest in Sri Lanka, he was mainly trying to build a career in a different aspect of the tea industry and eventually became the President and Founder of Empire Tea Services LLC. At the same time, he was singing in the church choir at North Christian Church and later at St. Paul's Episcopal church in his town, Columbus, Indiana. In 2010 he won the Senior Idol contest in Columbus, Indiana which opened avenues to enable him to give solo performances in public for community events and fundraisers. During the Pandemic he found an online App called "Smule" that enabled him to sing and record songs that he loved to the accompaniments available on this app. This became a hobby for him, and he went on to record over 200 songs on this app over a course of 2 years! He was also able to perform these songs at fundraisers and community events and used his talent to entertain residents of retirement homes in Columbus. He never made money out of his singing but any funds that came his way as donations he would give to Love Chapel, Columbus, Indiana, which he considered as one of his favorite charities. He was also the prime mover in establishing the annual Christmas Concert at St. Pauls’ Episcopal church benefiting Love Chapel.
At about the same time his songs were turned into music videos and were posted on Facebook and YouTube. The response was encouraging, and he decided to use the momentum to create a music CD of some of his favorite songs, offer it for sale, and raise funds for Charity. Of course, the exclusive beneficiary would be the "Love Chapel" of Columbus, his favorite charity www.lovechapelcolumbus.com
The CD comprises of popular songs from the decades gone by. He is thankful for the "Smule" app that has made this possible. You can also listen to his songs on his YouTube channel or simply searching for Lalith Paranavitana
